Iran’s CP football team reaches final at Vejen 2016

TEHRAN, Aug. 05 (MNA) – The Iranian men’s national 7-a-side football team thrashed Portugal’s at semi-final event of the 2016 IFCPF World Championships Qualification Tournament in Denmark’s Vejen.

Iran national Cerebral Palsy (CP) football team thrashed Portugal’s national team 5-1 on Thursday at Vejen Idrætscenter stadium of Danish city of Vejen to reach the final event of the tournament which is scheduled to be held on Saturday.

Just in the opening 15 minute of the game, Iranian football players scored 4 times and if it was not for the substitutions made by Saleh Hossein, Iran’s Head Coach, who decided to reserve the energy and leg of his players for the final, Portugal could have conceded to more goals.

Mehdi Jamali scored a hat trick in 15 minutes and Amir Amjadian added another one for a total score of 4-0 just in the first half.

Officiated by Ross Haswell, the game started at 7:00 pm local time, and after half an hour the two teams left the pitch 4-0 for the first half before getting back half an hour later.

With all the efforts of the Portuguese to change the result, in the second half, Tiago Ramos received a clear penalty that Vitor Vilarinho converted it for the losers of the day. But Amir Amjadian scored another goal for Iran to reach the final numbers of 5-1.

On Saturday, the Iranian athletes have to line up against Scotland to fight over the gold medal of the tourney and Portugal’s national team have to play against Venezuela for the Bronze medal.

The mentally challenged Iranian sportsmen were drawn in Group C of the tournament with Northern Ireland, and Germany. The Iranians defeated Germans 7-1, on Saturday, July 30 at a game officiated by Garry Polkey.

Two days later, on Monday August 01, Iranians defeated Northern Ireland 8-2 to top the Group C of the event and enter the knockout stage of the tournament where they won 6-0 against Australia at quarterfinal before playing with Portugal at semi-final.

The Iranian men’s national 7-a-side football team is made up of abak Safari, Hossein Safari, Mahdi Jamali, Hossein Tizbar, Behnam Sohrabi, Jasem Bakhshi, Amir Amjadian, Ehsan MAsoumzadeh, Sadegh Hasani, Hamid Fathizadeh, Naser Akbarpour, Lotfollah Jangju, Mohammad Kharrat and Moslem Khazaei.

The 7-a-side football is a form of association football for athletes with cerebral palsy and other neurological disorders, namely stroke and traumatic brain injury.  The matches consist of two 30-minute halves, with a 15-minute interval, and are played with modified FIFA rules.
